Counselor Corner

Hello 6th grade parents!  Your 6th grader has just wrapped up their first 9 weeks of middle school!  As their counselor,here are some takeaways from this quarter:

1.  Regularly check Skyward with your child to monitor grades and any missing assignments.  Sign up for weekly tutoring if your child needs extra help on assignments.
2. Use Parent Square as your communication tool to gain information from either your child’s teachers or me.  We will also use it to communicate with you.
3. Monitor your child’s phone/social media.
4. All 6th graders have completed the state-mandated anti-bullying lessons.
5. Please let me know if there is anything that you or your student needs as you navigate 6th grade!

Hello 7^th grade families!! 7^th graders are doing wonderful this school year. We just wrapped up our first 9 weeks of school. Grades are posted to skyward under portfolio. (Please check your child’s grades.) Here are a few things that we have done so far this school year.

1. All 7^th grade students participated in state mandated bullying lessons to ensure that they know how to be an upstander. We focused on cyberbullying as this can be a problem with middle school students. This was a part of bullying prevention month. (Please be monitoring your students social media and cell phone usage to ensure that they are using their technology in a positive manor.)
2. Please check Skyward and Parent square messages regularly to keep up with your student’s grades and correspondence from Mr. Pitcock and your student’s teachers to ensure that you don’t miss out on things going on at WL.
3. Some of our 7^th grade students attended the E.U overnight camping trip. For those students that stayed back we took a trip to Conner Prairie and the Indianapolis Zoo.
4. If you have not done so, please fill out the 21^st Century Scholars application for your student to receive a (free) scholarship money to attend college at any school in Indiana. www.scholartrack.che.in.gov

Hello 8th Grade Families!  can you believe your 8^th grader is more than a quarter through finishing Middle School! Here are a few key points we have worked through so far:

• Completed state mandated anti-bullying lessons: Bullying Vs. Peer Conflict, definition of bullying, types of conflict & bullying, importance of being an upstander and the negative long-term effects of bullying
• 8^th graders advocating and becoming more self-sufficient when meeting the needs of their academic & social-emotional needs by utilizing the necessary skills

• Please be on the lookout for ParentSquare messages from myself and Mr. Pitcock about school but more in particular about things that will be occurring specifically for 8^th graders
